We tend to use words "Republican Party" and "Democrat party" only as representative of parties on the "right" and "left" of the political spectrum.
But I think we ought to consider their actual meaning.
Republican means Federalist - less power granted the federal executive, more devolved to the states, as originally intended. And while power was intended to be balanced between government and the individual, protecting the individual from too-powerful government via the Constitution and a system of checks and balances, still, tiers of government were not intended to be elected by the people, as the founders were aware of the dangers of what would amount to mob rule, as every Democracy had become untenable for this reason.
Democracy means for there to be no check on executive power, no in-between, no state power, and can, as has been learned throughout history, devolve into mob-ruled chaos.
For this reason, at the very least, Americans ought NOT be concerned by a Republican President because the very nature of Republicanism is to NOT wield that office as a tyrant over all the people, but to delegate, in those domains not reserved for the Executive, to the states. We saw this in President Trump. Like him or not, he delegated to the states in all things including COVID response, riot control etc.
And for this reason, at the very least, Americans OUGHT to be concerned by a Democrat president because the very nature of Democracy is concentrated power at the top and the desire to wield that power, delegating next to nothing to the states and believing in a default position that the executive has a right to power in all things, unless and until there is pushback.
Not all Republican presidents have been this way. But I would venture to say that all Democrats are.
And this nation will break apart as long as we dont' do all we can to ensure that the President of the United States does not usurp his/her power, that states stand up against this concentration of power, and that the people recognize that this nation was not meant to be run this way.
States were meant to be the pre-eminent tier of government in most things. And we have got to regain that balance.
This is not a left-right thing. This is a matter of where the power of governance lies: at the local level, or at the Presidential level. And it was never meant to lie at the Presidential level. ONLY Democrats see it that way.
Which is of course why they were terrified of Donald Trump: Because THEY SEE THE PRESIDENCY AS THE LOCUS OF ALL POWER. But HE didn't. THEY WERE TERRIFIED HE WOULD RULE as THEIR PRESIDENTS DO, but he didn't. Because that is not the vision of Republicans.
WE KNOW how Democrats view the world, but they haven't a clue how we do.
They are the masters of projection who are so convinced of what they know that they can't be bothered to actually pay attention.
Restore power to the states. Put the brakes on Democrats' seizure of power. And encourage our Republican candidates to be clear about this when they campaign.
We have a lot of work ahead of us but we are up to it.
